Ethereum P2P Trading in India

Ethereum P2P trading lets you buy or sell ETH directly with another person for INR. On CoinYatra, ETH is one of the assets on the P2P marketplace: the seller's ETH is held in escrow, the buyer pays by UPI or bank transfer, and the ETH is released only after the seller confirms the payment has arrived.

Digital assets are volatile and not covered by deposit insurance. Capital at risk.

How an ETH P2P trade works

A seller posts an ad with a price in INR per ETH, a minimum and maximum order size and the payment methods they accept. A buyer picks an ad and enters the INR amount. At that moment the matching ETH moves from the seller's available balance into escrow, so it cannot be spent elsewhere while the order is open.

The buyer then transfers INR from a bank or UPI account in their own name and marks the order as paid. The seller checks their bank statement, confirms receipt and releases the ETH to the buyer's CoinYatra balance. If something goes wrong, either side can raise a dispute inside the order and attach evidence for review.

  • Both traders must complete identity verification
  • ETH is locked in escrow for the life of the order
  • Payment by UPI or bank transfer in INR
  • A fixed payment window on every order
  • In-order chat and a dispute process
  • Completion record and ratings shown on each ad

Can I buy Ethereum with INR?

Yes, through P2P. After verifying your account, open the marketplace, select ETH, and compare sell ads. Once the seller releases, the ETH sits in your CoinYatra balance where you can hold it, withdraw it to your own Ethereum wallet, or use Swap to convert it into another supported asset.

Direct Buy/Sell with CoinYatra itself is not available yet and is planned from 1 April 2027. Until then, INR purchases of ETH happen between verified users.

Ethereum P2P vs USDT P2P

The mechanics are identical, but the asset behaves differently. USDT is a stablecoin that follows the US dollar, so its INR price mostly reflects the USD/INR rate and local demand. ETH is volatile: its price can change noticeably during the minutes between opening an order and releasing it. Sellers often build that risk into their price, so the spread between ETH ads can be wider than for USDT.

ETH ads are quoted per whole ETH, which means even small orders are a fraction of a coin. Moving ETH on-chain also tends to cost more in network fees than moving USDT on a low-cost network, which matters if you plan to withdraw. For USDT-specific guidance, see buying and selling USDT via P2P.

What to compare before opening an order

Compare the ad price with a live reference price, check that the order limits fit the amount you want, confirm the payment method works for you, and look at the trader's completion rate and ratings. Also check the P2P and withdrawal fees so you know the amount you will actually receive or pay.

Security and India-specific points

Always pay from, and receive into, an account in your own name; third-party payments are a common cause of disputes and bank holds. Never release ETH because of a screenshot, and keep the conversation inside the order chat. Read P2P trading and bank account freezes before trading larger amounts.

Crypto gains are taxed in India. Keep your order history, which CoinYatra retains in your Activity page. See is crypto legal in India for the wider picture.

Common mistakes

Marking an order as paid before the transfer is actually sent; paying via a method the ad does not list; releasing ETH before checking the bank statement; withdrawing ETH on the wrong network; and judging price only by the headline rate without accounting for fees.
